JCYS programs serve diverse populations - from low-income urban communities to affluent city neighborhoods and northern suburbs But we know all too well that no family, regardless of socio-economic status, is immune to hardship.
Children themselves face challenges. Some are diagnosed with cognitive delays and disorders that demand greater attention. JCYS fosters each child's individual development with warmth, understanding, patience, and expertise.
For children and adults with development disabilities, Camp Red Leaf's summer and year-round respite programs answer parents' and caretakers' prayers for their children and themselves. They know a weekend at Red Leaf will be an exciting and nurturing experience for their camper, while allowing them much needed rest and renewal. As we know the cost for caring for a person with a disability is overwhelming for most, JCYS supports much of Camp Red Leaf's costs, making camp accessible to all families in need.
While teens continue to fall through cracks in the educational system, JCYS Adventure Education gives youth-at-risk the skills to succeed in school and beyond. We strive to keep freshmen motivated, focused, and enrolled in school during their difficult high school transition. This program is fully staffed and supported by JCYS-at no cost to the schools or students. This is another testament of our commitment to better the life of a child today-and tomorrow.
Hardships occur for those at our Family Centers and Camps, too. Some families are single-parent households. There are families experiencing a job loss, sudden medical emergency, physical or mental illness, or the death of a loved one. All of these situations can severely impact children, whether toddlers or teens.
JCYS helps families facing such issues-by offering the programs they need when they need them-and, by providing needed scholarship dollars that make these programs available to children. JCYS strengthens families, one child at a time.
Following are a summary of "Where Your Dollars Go":
