A key part of JCYS' mission is to help young professionals develop the skills needed for a lifetime of community service and philanthropy through its Board of Directors Experience. JCYS Board Members, who are primarily between the ages of 26 and 40 years old, participate in a dynamic, comprehensive and intensive leadership development experience.
For most, JCYS is their first philanthropic service commitment.
At the beginning of the Board of Directors experience-new members are given introductory sessions on governance, policy, programs, financial management and fundraising. The board hosts several fundraising events every year, including the Spring Gala and Golf Outing.
Like most boards, JCYS fosters friendships and networking, which benefits Board Members personally and professionally. But, the JCYS experience requires a hands-on commitment with responsibilities including:
- Establishing the agency's mission and long-range goals
- Overseeing the agency's budget and investments
- Approving and monitoring facility improvements
- Amending by-laws
- Championing the agency's fundraising campaigns
Through exposure to the full scope of the agency's operations-and ultimately being immersed in the process-JCYS Board Members are equipped to assume key leadership roles.
