Our preschool programs offer a developmental curriculum that is designed to enhance your child's social, physical and intellectual abilities. Each program offers age appropriate activities in reading readiness, math readiness, dramatic play, music and art.
Each of our six spacious classrooms feature learning centers with age appropriate equipment uniquely designed to meet the needs of your young child. The enclosed playground and blacktop area are newly renovated. The playground area offers outside climbing structures, slides and rubberized surfacing.
We spend time outside each day (weather permitting) to help maintain healthy bodies and develop large motor skills. Nutritious snacks and well balanced kosher style hot lunches are catered in each day for the children. During all of our daily activities, we continuously work with children on their social skills such as interacting with others, sharing, and developing verbal skills.
Curriculum
As an agency committed to children, the goal of our JCYS Family Center is to create a place in which they are treated with respect and love in an educational environment, which is challenging, creative, exciting, and fun. A place where children gladly spend time!
At the JCYS Lakeview Family Center, children are cared for with respect and love in an educational environment which is challenging, creative, exciting, and fun. It's a place where children gladly spend time!
Our program is focused on all aspects of children's development: intellectual, social, emotional, and physical. Therefore, our curriculum places emphasis on learning through play, which is the way children best develop skills in all of these areas. Each classroom has various learning centers that are open to the children. We allow for long play periods during which the children freely choose from among the available options how best to spend their time. In this environment, children build their confidence and develop problem-solving skills by trying different activities and ways of doing things.
Structured group time for stories, singing, language development, science and cooking activities, and games is another important element of our program. To promote learning, our curriculum is based on a unifying theme, which helps children concentrate on specific concepts and provides a sense of integration. Children come to school each day with a variety of previous experiences. We focus on maintaining an open and flexible curriculum for each child to build on and grow according to his or her own unique conceptual level.
We believe that for the benefit of a child's continued growth and good health, it is important to engage in large motor activities and to spend time outdoors each day. Each classroom has a daily scheduled time on our playground. Children have the use of an age appropriate climber, riding toys, teeter totters and other outside toys. Our curriculum also includes outside activities such as nature walks and community explorations.
All of our classrooms participate in the Jewish holiday curriculum. Jewish holidays and customs are explored from a cultural point of view through music, stories, cooking, and crafts. The children begin to appreciate the Jewish culture and identity. The Jewish Sabbath is celebrated every Friday with special songs, snacks and customs. In addition to the Jewish holidays, the following basic Jewish values are taught throughout our entire curriculum: family, caring about others, acceptance of others, tzedakah (charity), education, and environmental concerns.
