About the Center
Just a one-hour drive from Chicago and Milwaukee, the JCYS Conference and Retreat Center is set on picturesque Wooster Lake, situated amid 180 acres of beautiful trails, rolling prairies and woodlands. JCYS combines conference and meeting facilities with superb lodge and cabin accommodations, delicious meals prepared fresh in our dining hall and numerous recreational options.

Whether playing or relaxing, learning or sharing, the JCYS Conference and Retreat Center provides an unforgettable experience.

Dining

The JCYS Conference and Retreat Center offers delicious, "kosher-style", well-balanced, buffet style meals prepared year-round under the supervision of a professional Food Service Manager. Banquets, cookouts, and special dietary needs (i.e. vegetarian, allergies) can be easily arranged with our staff prior to your visit.

Guest Accommodations
JCYS guest enjoy comfortable lodging in majestic and tranquil surroundings. The JCYS Conference and Retreat Center can house up to 325 guests in the fall, winter and spring. Accommodations range from lodges that feature spacious, air-conditioned/heated rooms with fireplaces and bath facilities, to smaller, more private buildings with kitchens. Seasonal cabins and camping sites are also available for a more rustic experience.

Staff House - This sleeping facility can accommodate up to 10 people and has a seasonal porch.

Shirley & Hilton Leibow Lodge - Our newest addition accommodates up to 120 guests in 16 rooms. Outfitted with oversized wooden bunks for comfort, Leibow rooms are semi-private with central bathroom/shower facilities. A small serving kitchen and large meeting room complete this comfortable lodge.

Ruth Lodge - This beautiful building includes a kitchen and spacious meeting room;  the lodge sleeps up to 32 guests in two large dormitory style rooms and two semi-private rooms complete with new, oversized bunks.

Charles Desser Village - This newly renovated, flexible dorm-style facility can accommodate up to 110 guests over five separate bunkrooms. All rooms are equipped with wooden oversized bunk beds. The building features two bathrooms with private showers and a seasonal porch.

Stein  Wedeles Lodge - This flexible facility can be used for meetings, housing, or both. It sleeps up to 30 people or can be converted into two 20-person conference rooms. Stein  Wedeles also features two private rooms, kitchen facilities, and a fireplace.

Harry Friend Pioneer Center - This sleeping facility can accommodate up to 14 people, has a comfortable meeting roo, small kitchenette and seasonal porch.

Seasonal Cabins - These classic cabins are equipped with 12 single beds and a short walk to bathroom/shower house. Available from May to September, these cabins are ideal for scout groups, camps, or family weekends.

Tent Camping - Camping sites are available year-round and feature two large picnic pavilions, bathrooms, running water, charcoal grills for cooking, and 5 open fire pits.

Programming and Services

JCYS offers a number of cultural, creative and sports programs that capture the imagination and appeal to varied interests throughout the year.

Outdoor Facilities
The grounds are home to  five tennis courts, regulation size basketball courts, a large outdoor Olympic-size swimming pool, large athletic fields for soccer and football, a skate park, ball fields for softball and baseball and several sand volleyball courts. Wooster Lake  is ideal for kayaking and canoeing, swimming, fishing and ice skating;  the beach and campfire circle make this one of the most popular venues at camp.

Miles of beautiful trails are perfect for hikes, jogging, cross country skiing, mountain biking and nature exploration. In addition, the Horner staff will be happy to assist you in finding and reserving local entertainment or reservations such as bowling, skating, karaoke, etc.

Indoor Facilities
The JCYS Harriet Gerber Lewis Arts and Crafts and the Ruth Lodge Crafts House are wonderful places for painting, drawing, jewelry making, ceramics, tie-dye and crafts projects!

Many of our lodges and our Recreation Hall provide many venues for a variety of group activities from meetings to talent shows.

High Sierra Adventure Center
Ideal for any youth group, staff, or sports team needing an experience to bring them together for success. High Sierra tailors its teambuilding/low ropes programs to the needs, goals, and abilities of its clients in order to foster communication, develop teamwork and problem-solving skills as well as enhance cooperation and camaraderie. The challenge course works to boost self-esteem by allowing participants to challenge comfort zones and overcome perceived limitations.

Henry Horner Outdoor Education
T
he 180 acre campus with rolling prairie, forest, lake, natural creeks and marshes enables Henry Horner to provide quality environmental educational programs. Camp Henry Horner has ½ day, full day, and overnight educational programs ranging from living history to outdoor survival skills.. You can spend a day in the life of a pioneer moving west or learn proper fire-building techniques.
