Adventure Education
Philosophy
High Sierra Adventure Center adheres to the Challenge of Choice philosophy. This simply means that a participant may at any time, for any reason, choose to withdraw from an activity. Our facilitators are here to assist and encourage willing participants.

Safety
At High Sierra, At High Sierra, your safety is our number one concern. The Center is equipped with high quality, modern safety devices, such as specially designed climbing ropes, harnesses and belay systems (a rope and friction plate system that keep the participant in place), that work together to minimize the risk and enhance your group's experience. What is a Team Challenge Course?
A Challenge Course in an innovative tool for learning the teamwork, trust, communication and cooperation skills necessary throughout life. Through a series of problem-solving and initiative activities, a group learns to rely on each other to reach a common goal. This course is ideal for any group (corporate, school, synagogue, church, scouts, etc.) wishing to create unity while experiencing an exciting and fun filled adventure.

What can be accomplished on the Challenge Course?

  • Develop leadership skills individually and as a group.
  • Improved communication and decision-making abilities within your group.
  • Increase and strengthen camaraderie between friends, co-workers and volunteers.
  • Create new levels of trust, respect and acceptance within the group.
  • Boost self-confidence and confidence in one another.

Components of the Challenge Course
There are three main components to the challenge course: Games and Initiatives, Low Elements and High Elements.

Games and Initiatives
There are activities that help break the ice. Beginning with simple tasks that require the group to work collectively, these activities lay a foundation, which allows the group to overcome more complex problems that require planning, cooperation, creativity and trust.

Low Elements
Participants move their new team working skills to activities that take place just above the ground. Similar to the initiatives, low ropes present a higher degree of difficulty in which participants rely heavily on each other, both mentally and physically.

High Elements
The High Elements focus more on the individual. Participants have the opportunity to build self-esteem by challenging comfort zones and overcoming perceived limitations. Activities may include reliance on others or equipment, climbing over obstacles, walking on cable bridges, climbing to 50 feet on the high ropes or riding the zip line.

Programming
Programs range from 1/2 day workshops up to a 3-day, 2 night experience that include meals and use of camp facilities. In addition, High Sierra's team-building workshops can be held at your school or facility providing a great introduction or follow-up experience to a day at the Adventure Center.
